Cycling Success

Success at the South Island Schools Road Cycling Championships and National Track Series.

The South Island Schools Road Cycling Championships were held at the Euromarque Motorsport Park at Ruapuna in Christchurch over the first weekend of the July holidays.

The Southland Boys' High School squad of Ollie Keast and Magnus Jamieson had outstanding results in both the Time Trial and Road Race.

Results:

Ollie Keast U16 Boys: Time Trial – 2nd; Road Race – 2nd

Magnus Jamieson U20 Boys: Time Trial – 2nd; Road Race – 1st

Southland Boys' High School/Team Points Competition – 4th

The following weekend, Ollie and Magnus continued their great form at the National Track Series – Round 2, held at the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in Cambridge.

Split over Endurance and Sprint events, the National Track Series is designed to give athletes a chance to race various events outside the national championships. The results are based on a points system over National Track Series 1 (held in Invercargill over Kings' Birthday weekend) and National Track Series 2.

Results:

A Grade Endurance:

Ollie Keast: NTS1 – 5th, NTS 2 – 15th, overall – 6th

Magnus Jamieson: NTS1 – 1st, NTS2 – 1st, overall – 1st

Well done to both Ollie and Magnus for great racing and excellent results!
