A traditional school with a contemporary heart

New Zealand Secondary School Athletics Championships

A team of three talented students recently competed at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics in Timaru.

In fields of more than 30 competitors, the boys did exceptionally well, bringing home some medals.

Hunter Flowers ran a 14 second personal best in the 1500m, showing he is one to watch in the future.

Hector O’Rourke’s training paid off as he claimed a bronze medal in the discus, throwing just over 48 metres.

In his last nationals, James McLeay had a sprint finish in the 3000m, just getting pipped at the post for a silver medal. Two days later, another sprint finish down the straight, but this time, he turned the tables and claimed the gold!

James McLeay: 1500m 1st, 3000m 2nd

Hector O’Rourke: Discus 3rd, Shot Put 9th

Hunter Flowers: Year 9 Road Race 5th, 1500m 19th
